Pedestrian Struck by Train


via MattarMedia UTICA, NY (UticaOD) Emergency crews are responding to a serious freight train-pedestrian accident on tracks north of the Utica Memorial Auditorium.

Investigators with the city police department's Criminal Investigation Division are at the scene.

Tow Truck in Swimming Pool After Hitting Car





via MattarMedia RAPIDS, NY (WKBW) An accident involving a tow-truck and a passenger vehicle on Tonawanda Creek Road North in the town of Rapids, may have been caused by texting.

Police and witnesses say they believe the driver of the tow-truck may have been texting while driving when he slammed into a car occupied by a woman and her 8-year old son. The impact dislodged a car on the tow-truck bed, sending it into a neighboring house, while the tow-truck landed partially in a back-yard pool.

The driver of the tow-truck was taken by ambulance to ECMC with back injuries. The female driver was taken by Mercy Flight to ECMC and is in serious condition with a head injury. The 8-year old child suffered whiplash, but is otherwise in good condition.

Two-car Collision Send 5 People to Hospital.





via MattarMedia LANCASTER, N.Y. WIVB) - An accident in Lancaster sent five people to the hospital.

"All the sudden we heard this unusual bang, like we thought it was a gun shot and all the sudden everything silenced," said Debbie Zymowski of Lancaster.

A two-car collision sent five people to the hospital. Neighbors near Walden Avenue and Sheldon, were stunned by the sound of Monday night's crash.

"They had to use the jaws of life to get the driver out the car, while they used what looked like a chain saw to get the other two passengers out. One girl was screaming blood curdling, that she was covered in blood on her legs," said Dolly Kicior of Lancaster.

Lancaster Police say they responded to the accident around 11:20 p.m. Monday. They say 23-year-old Eric Berst of Kenmore caused the crash. Police charged him with driving while intoxicated and failure to keep right.

Police say Juliette Peterson of Buffalo operated the car that was hit. Three other passengers in that car include a 43-year-old male, a 29-year-old female and a 13-year-old female. The 13 year old is at Children's Hospital Tuesday morning recovering from facial, hip and leg injuries.

"Your stomach just drops to the floor to listen to the girl crying, my legs, my legs. It's just something you're never going to forget having a teenage daughter."

Other parents who witnessed the aftermath feel the same way. Brenda Kujawa says she called her children to make sure they weren't involved in the accident.

Late-night Rollover on East Side




via MattarMedia BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - One man was injured in a late-night rollover accident on Buffalo's east side.

It happened Saturday night near the corner of Sycamore and Strauss Streets.

A man was taken to the hospital with non-liife threatening injuries when his car flipped over after hitting a pole.

His name has not been released.

Mom Driving Kids Charged With DWI




via MattarMedia TONAWANDA, NY (WKBW) - A Town of Tonawanda woman is facing DWI and other charges after police say she was pulled over while driving drunk with her children in the car.

Dione A. Washington of Longfellow Court was observed by officers swerving and running a stop sign on Sheridan Parkside Drive on Monday night, said Capt. Jon Scott.

Then officers noticed three children, ages two, three and eight, in the backseat. None of the children were wearing seat belts, Scott said. The eight-year-old was sitting in the cargo area of the vehicle.

The two toddlers were in their car seats but were not strapped in, according to the police report.

4 Injured In Watertown Crash, Woman Airlifted To Hospital




via MattarMedia Watertown, NY (WNYF) - Officials say a woman who sustained a compound leg facture and chest injuries had to be airlifted to a Syracuse hospital following a three-vehicle accident in the town of Watertown Thursday afternoon.

Three other people suffered minor injuries in the crash and were taken to Samaritan Medical Center. The accident happened at approximately 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of Old Rome State and Sulphur Springs roads

According to Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies, a red car failed to yield at a stop sign and pulled into the path of a blue car. The two collided; a non-moving pickup truck was also struck in the crash. The red car hit a concrete pillar at TLC Funeral Home on Old Rome State Road.

Officials say a woman in the red car was taken by helicopter to a Syracuse hospital. The driver of the red car, who officials say is from Rensselaer Falls, was taken to SMC. Two women in the blue car were also transported to the Watertown hospital.

The people in the pickup truck escaped injury. No names have been released.

DWI charge follows crash in Clarence

A Lockport woman faces charges of driving while intoxicated and under the influence of drugs following a Tuesday morning crash on Transit Road in Clarence, Erie County sheriff’s officials reported.

Alison Albers, 47, rear-ended another vehicle at about 10:30 a. m., deputies reported. Albers was taken to Lockport Memorial Hospital with a neck injury.

While at the hospital, she was arrested and released on traffic summonses pending arraignment in Clarence Town Court.

Whitesboro motorcyclist in serious condition



via MattarMedia Whiteboro, NY (UticaOD) A motorcyclist injured Wednesday night in a crash on Oriskany Boulevard is in serious condition this morning at a Utica hospital, authorities said.

James Hayes, 66, of Whitesboro, was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center after he suffered chest injuries when his bike collided with a car, Whitesboro police said.

Hayes was operating a motorcycle eastbound on Oriskany Boulevard when a westbound vehicle driven by Erica Wilczynski, 17, turned left into Nice n Easy at about 9:45 p.m., Whitesboro police Officer Jeff Buckley said at the scene.

Wilczynski will be ticketed for failure to yield, Buckley said.

Pedestrian hit by car suffers serious injuries

A 48-year-old Rochester man was taken to Strong Hospital around 10 p.m. last night after he was hit by a car. It happened on Lake Avenue.

Kenneth Patterson was crossing the street or walking down the middle of the street when he was struck by a northbound vehicle on Lake Avenue.

Patterson sustained serious injuries as a result of the accident.

No tickets were issued to the driver at the time of the report.

Motorcyclist Charged with Driving Drunk

A motorcyclist injured in an accident on Route 5 in the Town of Westmoreland has now been charged with DWI, state police said. Investigators say he had a blood alcohol content level over twice the legal limit.

Police say Benjamin Hunt, 32, of Westmoreland was trying to make a left hand turn from Route 5 onto Deans Highway, and lost control of his bike. His motorcycle crashed onto its ride side. Hunt received minor cuts to his hand.

Hunt was arrested for DWI; police tests show his blood alcohol content to be .27%.

Hunt was issued tickets for aggravated DWI, .18% or above and for speed not reasonable and prudent.

Utica Woman Injured in Car Accident

A Utica woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday night, New Hartford police officer Andrew Allen said today.

At 9:30 p.m., emergency crews responded to the intersection of Route 5 and Genesee Street, where Lacie O. Jackson of Utica had turned left onto Genesee Street and collided with an eastbound vehicle on Route 5 being operated by Cassandra R. Kenyon of Cassville, police said.

Kenyon passed a red light at the intersection, police said.

Jackson was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica with complaints of shoulder and hip pain, police said. Her passenger, 14-month-old Shynita Ferguson of Utica, also was transported for evaluation.

Kenyon, as well as her passengers Robert A. Douglas, Erica S. Kenyon and Marcy K. Lohnas were uninjured.

Kenyon was issued a summons for passing a red light and will appear in Town of New Hartford Court at a later date, police said.

New Hartford firefighters and Edwards Ambulance also responded.

Rollover accident injures four people in Franklinville

An accident in the southern tier injured four people. Investigators say a driver crossed into the opposite lane and side swiped another car on Route 16 in Franklinville, Thursday.

That car then rolled over. Two of the victims were transported to the hospital by helicopter. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
